Names & facts of Olympics Mascots 2012

The official Mascot which represents the history or culture of the host city is created for each and every Olympic game since 1972. The official Mascots for this year Olympics and Paralympics are Wenlock and Mandeville respectively. A creative agency named Iris has made and designed the mascots of 2012 Olympics. Wenlock (Orange) and Mandeville (Blue) are made from the last 2 drops of steel that is used for building the London Olympic stadium. Wenlock name is derived from a town, Much Wenlock in Shropshire while Mandeville derived from a hospital, Stoke Mandeville. Both Mascots have various features that represent the elements of the Paralympics and Olympics.

Wenlock features 5 friendship bracelets on wrist, 3 points & “W” light on his head and one eye. Bracelets are in the colors of Olympic rings, 3 points represents the shape of the Olympic stadium roof, the light symbolizes the lights on iconic black taxis of London and the eye is a camera lens that captures all the things. Mandeville features three prongs & “M” light on his head, one eye and the timer on his wrist. Three prongs symbolize the Paralympic emblem, the light represents the lights on iconic black taxis of London, the personal timer helps him to keep track and the eye is video camera which record everything. The aerodynamic tail and the hands of Mandeville represent the motto of Paralympic (“Spirit In Motion").
